Mental Health Week 2023

7 – 15 October 2023

Queensland Mental Health Week focuses on 3 elements that are crucial in nurturing and promoting well-being: “Awareness, Belonging, Connection.” Let’s explore these and discover some activities that embody these principles.

Awareness

Self-awareness is the foundation of mental well-being. Engage in activities such as journaling, meditation, or therapy to cultivate a deeper understanding of your emotions, thoughts, and needs. Prioritize mental health by creating a daily self-care routine that includes activities like exercise, practicing mindfulness, and setting boundaries with technology.

Belonging

Create a sense of belonging by engaging in activities that foster shared interests and understanding. Attend cultural events, festivals, or exhibitions related to your heritage or interests. These experiences can help you feel connected to your cultural roots or broader community.

Connection

Cultivate connections by engaging in activities that build meaningful relationships. Join clubs or organizations aligned with your interests (i.e. Men’s Shed, theatre group, woodworking, crafting, etc); attend community gatherings; or participate in group activities such as team sports. Engaging in these activities provides opportunities to meet like-minded individuals and forge supportive relationships.

Let’s embrace the power of awareness, belonging, and connection. By incorporating activities that promote our well-being, we can create a culture that nurtures more smiles.
